However, it takes a lot of time and effort if you want to make sure that you do it right without causing damage to your stuff or making it hard for you to move it from your place to your storage space rental. Buy necessary storage units

Before packing anything, you need to have storage units where you will put your things inside. Cardboard boxes are one of the most common storage units that most homeowners buy. It is cheap, lightweight, and spacious depending on its size. However, if you are planning to store books and documents, you might want to buy plastic containers to ensure that it will not get wet or crumpled while stacking the boxes. You can also put other valuable materials inside a plastic container to avoid cracking and damage on your CDs, toys, and other fragile things made out of fragile materials.

Label your boxes

One of the best ways to keep track of your things inside your storage space is to label your boxes. Make sure that you keep similar things inside a certain box or just the things that are connected to one another. Label them with their purpose or what is inside the box. Some of the common labels are books, towels, curtains, blankets, CDs, toys, and others. The way you will label your boxes is entirely up to you. Just make sure that it will help you find things easily when you needed to. Also, labeling will help you on stacking your boxes inside your storage space rental.

Put heavy items on smaller boxes

When you start stacking your boxes inside your storage space for rent, there is a need of lot of lifting and moving. It is the reason why you need to pack your heavy items in smaller boxes. In this way, it will be easier for you to lift and move the box. If you decided to pack the heavy things inside a big box, it will be harder, time-consuming, and also needs a lot of effort. When stacking make sure that heavier boxes are placed at the bottom of the stacks to avoid giving too much weight on lighter boxes, which will cause it to damage your things.

Make use of wraps

Wrapping your fragile belongings is one of the best ways to ensure that your things will not be damaged while it’s inside your storage space in Singapore. The types of wrap you will need depend on the things that you will make use of it. There are certain wraps needed for sofas, mirror, mattress, and other things. One of the cheapest wrap that you can use for mirror or other things made out of glass is the bubble wrap. While for sofas and mattresses, you can use a shrink wrap. If you do not want to spend money for wrapping, you can use towels and blankets to avoid damage to your belongings.

  1. Appliances.  Before storing appliances, make sure that it is thoroughly cleaned and dry. Refrigerators and freezers with moisture and dirt tend to stink up pretty badly. Wipe it thoroughly and make sure to dry it overnight. When in storage leave it slightly ajar to maintain its freshness. Items like toasters and ovens also likely have some crumbs leftover. This can attract rats and other unwanted critters so make sure you vacuum these appliances before storing. Storage spaces in Singapore have very clean facilities however you never know if the storage space of other people beside your storage is attracting these unwanted critters.
  2. Clothes.  When storing clothes make sure they are out of wardrobes and drawers. Place them in clean plastic boxes and place a mothballs or some naphthalene. This ensures that it won’t absorb the smell of your storage space.
  3. Electronics.  When keeping electronics it is best to keep it in their original box. It’s the perfect size and they most likely contain Styrofoam specifically for your electronics. This is to avoid any dust or spider webs from accumulating in the little sockets. Place cloth or plastic wrap along the top and bottom of the box to make sure that should an accident occur (leaky roof, flooding, etc.) it will remain safe.
  4. Furniture.  Furniture pieces that contain fabrics such as sofas or chairs have to be vacuumed to remove any food crumbs. Cover them with a clean cloth to avoid attracting dust and absorbing the smell of your entire storage space. Wardrobes and drawers should be emptied out to protect the shelves. Place mothballs to protect and maintain their condition.
  5. Glassware & Dishware.  Protecting glassware and dishware should be one of the top priorities in your storage unit. This is because these items can easily break and get stained. Protect fragile items by individually wrapping them in packing paper (using newspapers are not recommended as they can stain porcelain). Before putting in the box, make sure to insert some bubble wrap in the bottom of the box. If there are any gaps between the dishes or glasses make sure to fill it with crunched up packing paper ensuring that there is no space for dishes to move. Add in some more bubble wrap at the top of the box to secure the items.
  6. Toys.  Keep toys in clean plastic boxes to avoid any dust from accumulating in the toys. Remove any batteries to avoid any damage brought by from leaking batteries.
